Willie Wilson Obituary

Willie Mae Wilson passed away March 29, 2019. She was born to the parents of Mrs. Donnie Bell Nelson and Mr. Rawling Brown, Sr. in Mitchell, Georgia, on March 10, 1929. She was affectionately known as “DuJack”.  Willie Mae attended Glascock County Consolidated Schools in Gibson, Georgia. The family later relocated to Miami, Florida. Mom worked as a domestic engineer for Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Wenikle for over thirty years. She became a second mom to Danna and Dicky Weinkle and was affectionately known as “Willie”.  Mom had a green thumb and could grow anything. She loved cooking and fishing, and never came home without a huge catch. She also loved playing cards with her family and friends. Mom was a member of Jordon   Grove Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. Douglas Cook where she served as usher and as a willing worker. Mom was a member of St. Arthur Chapter Number 41, Order of Eastern Star-PHA. She served as a faithful Matron from 1974 to the present.

Willie Mae was the Matriarch of the Brown and Warthen family, a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great, great-grandmother, aunt, sister, cousin neighbor and friend. She was the sister of ten siblings who proceeded her in death: Frank B. Nelson, Bubba Jr Nelson, Willie B. Nelson, Andrew Nelson, Thomas Paul (TP), Rawling Brown Jr., Elois Williams, Mattie B. Spencer, Margarette Morris, and Rubertha Wilcher.

Willie Mae leaves her beautiful memories behind with her loving children; Three daughters: Sally Ann Brown, Gloria Rhodes, Gennie Brown-Poitier (Cyril) and one Son, Sammy Lawson. Grandchildren; Balinda Rhodes, Brandon Brown Sr. (Erica), LaDarius Brown, LaGina Brown, Nine Great-grandchildren; Kyla Brown, Tai’Lynn Robinson, Ti’Laiyah Robinson, Treneice McKenzie, Sheyla Williams (Jerimiah), Monte Johnson, Johnathan Johnson, Brandon Brown Jr., Jordyn Brown, four Great great-grandchildren; Samara Rhodes, Damari Morales, Jerimiah Williams, Jr. and Messiah Williams.  Adopted Grandchildren; Shantavia Manning, Desmond Ford, Nia Ford, Akilah Coffey, Keyomi Marcelin, Matthew Mellerson, and Kayla Johnson. Sister-in-law; Naomi Nelson, Goddaughters; Donease McDonald, Stephanie Handford, Ardena Kimble (Richard), Sharon Wiggins, Shirley Brantley (Richard). God Grandchildren; DiShon Byrd, Jhayce Johnson, Phaterria Mortimer, Annie Carter, Chris Carter, Mya Kimble, Sheridan Brantley, Aminah Holas, and Jessica Holas. A host of nieces, nephews, and cousin. Devoted cousins; Mary Hargrett, Crawford May, Robert Warthen, Rose Watts (Tyrone), Clementine Patterson, Julius Warthen, dedicated nieces; Cora Wilcher, Lucille Ivey, Vicky Nelson, Karen Hammond (Rino), LaToya Nelson and a host of sorrowing friends.
